Netstal at the Drinktec in Munich, 14.09. - 19.09.2009
At the international trade fair Drinktec in Munich / Germany the Swiss moulding machinery manufacturer Netstal presents its innovative, high-output PET-LINE. The exhibited system for the production of PET preforms clearly underlines Netstal's system competence once more.
PET-LINE on the platform 2000: Highest efficiency with absolute precision
Netstal convinced with its PET-LINE platform 2000 already at the K-2007 in Düsseldorf. Until now this highly profitable overall system based on 2000 kN clamping force covered the lower cavity range using moulds with 24 to 48 impressions. In cooperation with the Swiss mould maker Otto Hofstetter AG Netstal now succeeds in operating 60 cavities on the same platform. Considering that 60 cavities required a machine of 3500 kN so far, this makes the customer's investment yet more efficient.
The model shown by Netstal at the Drinktec produces 0.5-litre preforms weighing 18.15 grams each at a cycle time of 8.8 seconds. This results in an output of more than 24,500 pieces per hour. Devices of the Austrian company Eisbär take care of material feeding, while the chiller unit is from efCooling of Switzerland.
This impressive demonstration enables Netstal to set new benchmarks. It proves that shorter cycle times don't necessarily mean a higher energy consumption or more occupied factory floor space. The maximized number of cavities in combination with the reliably reduced cycle time is the ideal solution offering absolute economic efficiency. With 60 cavities this production system provides an output without parallel in this equipment size range.
CALITEC®, the intelligent reduction of cycle time
Where injection moulding machines are used for bulk productions the striving for shorter cycle times is of particular relevance next to the saving of energy. Capital-intensive production equipment such as a system making preforms must be utilized as efficiently as possible. Taking this necessity into account, Netstal developed the innovative Calitec® system to shorten cycle times. By means of Calitec the inside of the preform is subjected to a slight air pressure during the cooling phase. On the one hand this presses the still hot moulded product evenly against the wall of the cooling sleeve and prevents it from shrinking away, and on the other it shortens the aftercooling phase.
By developing Calitec, Netstal succeeded optimally in reducing the cycle time significantly. Apart from this the preform's quality is enhanced, which is also a decisive advantage for the customer, of course.
Calitec® is by now in successful use on several Netstal PET-LINE preform production systems with up to 192 cavities.
Netstalʼs platform strategy
With a clearly defined platform strategy for PET-LINE systems Netstal offers its customers the possibility of specifying their production equipment to suit their particular requirements and achieving an ideal capacity utilization. Three basic system sizes lend themselves to different combination possibilities as regards the number of cavities and the distances between cavities, with moulds from 24 to 192 impressions. Each of the three platforms (2000 kN, 3500 kN and 6000 kN clamping force) stands out by the Netstal-typical properties of speed, precision, reliability and robustness. The objective of the platform strategy is to produce specific preforms with the smallest possible system size and the highest possible number of cavities in each case. The customer's big advantages from this are the cost reduction per moulded preform and the fact that different PET applications can be produced on the same system platform.
